It contains less caffeine than other coffee varieties (about 1,5%), to which it owes its delicate taste and intense aroma. Approximately 80%-90% of the coffee produced in the world is Arabica. Its beans are oblong and greenish. Arabica is a variety of coffee indigenous to the mountains of Yemen in the Arabian Peninsula, hence its name, and also to the southwestern highlands of Ethiopia and southeastern Sudan. During roasting of the beans specific substances are produced, which give the coffee its distinctive flavor.

 

Robusta ofer150Robusta ? a variety of coffee which has its origins in central and western sub-Saharan Africa. Although widely known as Coffea robusta, it has two main varieties - Robusta and Nganda. It is mostly grown in Vietnam and provides for approximately 20% of the world coffee production. It is easier to grow and has a greater crop yield than the other major coffee variety, Coffea arabica, and so, is cheaper to produce. It is more bitter in flavor and contains more caffeine than Coffea arabica (from 2% to 4%). Since Arabica beans are often considered superior, Robusta is usually used as a filler in lower-grade coffee blends. It is also often included in instant coffee and in espresso blends to promote the formation of "crema".
